The French Embassy in Romania and the Institut français de Roumanie are delighted to present a new episode of the “Cheers to Science” series, alongside the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Embassy of Greece in Bucharest, and the Wallonia-Brussels Delegation.
We invite you to join us on the 9th of July to explore science, in an informal atmosphere, with Mădălina Trelia, astronomer and PhD student, who will shed light on the hidden life of artificial satellites.
How do satellites behave when control is lost?
What does this mean for the future of space safety?
Using photometric observations — precise measurements of how satellites reflect sunlight — she investigates their rotation, orientation, and the forces that drive them. Her research helps us better understand inactive or uncontrolled satellites and the influence of mega-constellations and orbital debris on our existence.
”Cheers to Science” brings together European embassies and cultural institutes in Bucharest, united in their effort to promote dialogue between science and society. For each monthly episode, a different partner institution proposes a scientific topic, presented in accessible language and an unconventional format. Events are held in English and are open to the public.
