jazzunit presents: Groove Garden / Dodo (jazz vinyl set) / Jam Session @ Control Club
Groove Garden is a jazz-funk band founded by the Romanian pianist Sorin Zlat, which brings together experienced and well-known musicians on the Romanian and international jazz scene.
The musical genres approached by the group are Gospel, Funk, R&B, Soul, Fusion, Electro, Latin the repertoire being composed of rearranged songs by famous artists such as: Gregory Porter, Earth Wind And Fire, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Michael Jackson but also original compositions.
They have soon drawn the attention of national and international public and as a result they have been invited to many festivals. The group is currently working on new compositions that will be on their new album.
The band leader, Sorin Zlat, has over 20 national and international awards in his portfolio. Some performances worth mentioning are: The Grand Prix at Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition (The Great American Jazz Piano Competition), one of the most prestigious jazz competitions in the USA. It is the first time in the history of the competition in over 30 years when a non-American musician has won this award. Grand Prize at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival, Grand Prize at the Monaco Jazz Festival, Grand Prize at Europafest. In 2021, the artist received from Yamaha the highest title given to a musician Yamaha Artist. This success was followed by invitations in the USA, Europe and Asia where the pianist performed on the same stage with famous names such as: Chick Corea, Arturo Sandoval, Wynton Marsallis, Gregory Porter, Lalah Hathway, Kamasi Washington, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Brandford Marsallis, Jazmeia Horn and many others. Due to the distinctions and performances he obtained, Sorin managed to make the Groove Garden project one of the most important funk band from Romania.

jazzunit. is a night celebrating unity and togetherness alongside Bucharest’s finest jazz musicians and beyond. Put your dancing shoes on and warm yourself up, alongside our DJ, with a well sought selection of the hottest jazz, dance, soul and house records. Every night will feature a concert of emerging, fresh bands from the local jazz scene, which later on will be followed by a jam session of improvised groove music. A blend of Jazz, Afrobeat, Soul, Electronic, Hip-Hop and more. A short set will be performed by our house band, 7th SENSE, and the rest of the night will see the stage open to passion driven artists.
DODO is a self proclaimed music lover, DJ and Founder of Make Music Not War (MMNW) independent music production school from Romania. He brings happiness and love by his absolutely positive, carefully selected tracks, building up an unforgettable musical journey all the time.
He shared the stage with many high ranked artist, like: Polo & Pan (FR), Borrowed Identity (DE), Pillowtalk (US), Kraak and Smaak (NL), Bondax (UK), Todd Edwards (US), Zabiela (UK), Little Boots (US), Kornél Kovács (SE), Sam Divine (UK), Mathew Dekay (US), Dub Pistols (UK), Freestylers (UK), dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip (UK), Renegades Of Jazz (DE), Silent Strike (RO), Karpov not Kasparov (RO), The Model(RO), Danaga(RO), Iamyank (HU), Infragandhi (HU), Zagar(HU), and others.
7th SENSE is one of the youngest and most appreciated jazz bands from Romania, achieving to build in the last three years a solid image around the local and national jazz scene.
They combine fresh jazz compositions with groove driven music and improvisation, all of which can be heard on their debut album ‘Light in Chaos’, which was released last June. The journey they’ve been on has thought them that no matter how hard times can get, there is always a light we can cling onto in the chaos that is surrounding us. Thus, the wish to bring a ray of hope and convey this message with the audience has become an important part of their music and identity as a band. You will be drawn in to hop along their journey, discovering a multitude of influences ranging from soul, nu-jazz to electronic and world music.
