Benjamin Zander on music and passion este una dintre favoritele mele din lunga listă de TED talks pe care le am în bookmark. O scurtă paranteză pentru neiniţiaţi: înfiinţate în 1984 şi devenite evenimente anuale începând cu 1990, conferinţele TED (Technology, Entertainment & Design) au devenit una dintre referinţele principale atunci când vine vorba despre dinamicile pieţei de idei (vezi www.ted.com/talks).
Dirijor de peste 20 de ani, Benjamin Zander are două mari pasiuni: una este muzica clasică, iar cealaltă să ne ajute pe noi toţi să o descoperim şi să ne bucurăm de ea. În februarie 2008, când a vorbit la conferinţele TED, Zander, plin de umor, a „dezbrăcat” pentru cei peste 1.600 de oameni din public un preludiu de Chopin. Apoi le-a povestit: „I was in Ireland during the Troubles 10 years ago, and I was working with some Catholic and Protestant kids on conflict resolution. And I did this with them. A risky thing to do because they were street kids.
And one of them came to me the next morning and he said, «You know, I’ve never listened to classical music in my life, but when you played that shopping piece….» He said, «My brother was shot last year and I didn’t cry for him. But last night when you played that piece, he was the one I was thinking about.
And I felt the tears streaming down my face. And you know, it felt really good to cry for my brother.» So I made up my mind at that moment that classical music is for everybody. Everybody”.
În weekend începe festivalul de operă şi operetă în aer liber, cu lucrări de Verdi, Strauss (fiul) şi Puccini. Nu pot decât să sper
că Parcul Rozelor va fi plin.
